a haunting story

Have you ever bought a book you didn’t intend to and found out you’re in love with it?

Let me introduce you to the book I’m reading at the moment.

Sin título-1

The first thing that appealed to me was the title. What can I say? It’s just pure provocation.

Then the cover stroke me as passionate as well as melancholic. All that red in contrast with the ethereal veil over her clothes and the pure unmarred white of the woman’s skin.

The best thing about it, however, is the story. Yes, it has a story. Full of peril, mystery, strange happenings and, hopefully, romance.

It tells the story of a young girl who is sold by her father to a rich man. The reason for a trade in gold is that this man is looking for a bride for his cursed son. In fact, all the family is cursed. From the very beginning, a shroud of mystery clings to every step of her adventure. Fifteen-year-old Jasna meets her future husband who recoils from her. She has to live in a tower where the memory of a dead woman still hangs about in every web-covered corner. She is despised by everyone in the village and the priest won’t even let her into the church.

Along with Jasna, we feel her fear but also her courage. And the story develops in a land set between turks, vampire lore and very interesting customs from Serbia in 1731.

I highly recommend it. It’s not only wonderful fun but you get a pretty good picture of strange traditions and an original religious presence not very common in this genre.

Who is the author? ------------------------ NINA BLAZON. She was born innina Slovenia, the former Yugoslavia. Though the book is written in German. I hadn’t heard about her before this book, but I think she has several that might prove as appealing as this one. I’ll try to find out.

Apparently one of her favourite books when she was a child was The Never Ending Story. This proved to be an inspiration to her as she decided to pursue writing as her career.
